A Whistle in the Dark:Chapter 5 Preview

28 Mar

Chester’s general store had always been a curious place to Eaner. Every time he entered the store it had the weirdest combination of scents. It was like someone in the back was furiously preparing black liquorish bacon sandwiches. It was a terribly strange scent, but Eaner had grown to love the smell and actually looked forward to walking in the door.

As he stepped through the doorway, he wasn’t disappointed as he inhaled the wonderful bacon liquorish air. He headed straight towards the back refrigerators, but halfway there he heard a commotion. It sounded as if someone was holding up the store. He froze in his tracks while the voices near the front grew louder and angrier as shouts and insults sailed across the room. He moved a little closer, careful to keep his cover behind the chip isle. He slowly peeked his head around the corner to see the store owner Jim waving his arms in a rage. From where Eaner was standing, he couldn’t see who Jim was yelling at, but the tension in the room was escalating, sending chills down Eaner’s spine.
