Part 8

“Where do you think they are taking us,”  William questioned?

“I’m not sure Will, but from what Katie say’s, it sounds like they are taking us to a Queen,” Eva stated.

“I hope she’s a kind Queen,” Katie broke in.  “Those glow worms are scary.”

The scenery was mesmerizing through the transparent walls around them.  This was the first time that they were able to process the last couple of hours since they arrived to where ever they were.  Although there was a since of adventure each of them appreciated and embraced, there was also a tremendous fear of the unknown that crept in upon them as they were transported by the giant glowing creatures through the strange surroundings of what ever planet they were on.

“How did we get here, Eva?”  William questioned with a slight tremble in his voice.

Eva saw fear starting to take root in both the little ones as the carriage moved up and down slightly with each step of the glow worms.

“I don’t know if we are dreaming, or if this is real you guys, but I know that we are going to be alright.”  Eva stated so confidently she even fooled herself for the moment.  “Think about it you guys?”  “We are on some strange planet, and who knows if anyone has ever been here before!”  “We could be the first humans to ever visit this place!”  “We could be the first humans to ever see giant glow worms!” “Who knows what we are going to see next?”  With that, both William and Katie cracked a smile, as the fear began to lift like the morning mist kissed by the rising sun.

Suddenly the carriage came to an abrupt halt.  There was a scurry of activity outside as ten or so glow worms encircled the carriage facing away from the children.  They were armed with cylindrical rods as tall as they were.  The rods had oval ends, and in unison, the oval parts had a flap that opened revealing a neon green glow.  The creatures held the rods in front of them with the oval end straight in the air.  They fired their weapons, but instead of the blast going strait in the air, the beams connected forming a blanket that quickly enveloped the carriage and glow worms completely.    Once the glowing blanket force field was in place, five of the glow worms reached for the glow rods and removed them from the ranks, while not affecting the field in the least.  They pointed their rods towards the woods scanning the area for any movement with determination to blast their rods at the first sign of duress.

The children watched in silent wonder from inside the safety of the carriage as once again, anxiety rose in their hearts like a flame touching a thermometer.
